INSTRUCTIONS FOR TAKING POOL CHEMISTRY READINGS

1. Fill both tubes of the test block up with pool water to lines shown on side of block (pick up water at least 12” from the surface and away from the fresh water fill pipe).

2. CHLORINE READING: Holding each bottle vertically to the test block, add 5 drops of solution #1, then add 5 drops of solution #2 to the smaller of the two tubes in the block.

3. PH READING: Holding the bottle vertically to the test block, add 5 drops of solution #4 to the larger of the two tubes in the block.

4. Mix by shaking the block holding the tops of the two tubes from spilling.

5. Compare the color of the two tubes with the color charts to the side of the tubes. Determine which sample best relates to the colors in the two test samples.

6. Record these readings in the “SWIMMING POOL OPERATING RECORD” next to the number of the day of the month.

7. Discard chemicals into a nearby drain and rinse out block in pool water after readings are recorded.

8. Take two readings for each day, one before starting the shift at 12:00 am and another about 4:00 pm.

9. IMPORTANT! These readings are important records used to document the health of the pool water. They are required by the Alameda County Health Department and can be inspected at any time during the swimming season.

10. If the chlorine reading shows anything below .2 PPM, please call the Facilities engineer or the president of the board
